The Breitscheidplatz is the heart of West Berlin’s downtown. In the 1970s and 80s fans of the Hertha football club used to gather here, and people from all over the world still celebrate here together when World Cup and UEFA European Championship matches are held.

Every year, countless football fans from all over the world visit Berlin.

Football fans from Berlin and from all over the world often gather downtown to show their pride and joy at World Cup and UEFA European Championship matches. For big championship games public viewing and street festivals are customary. Often, after the matches, motorcades wind their way through the city, and people celebrate with spontaneous parties, meeting peacefully with others from all over the globe, regardless of nationality. The Breitscheidplatz, centrally located in West Berlin’s city center near the zoo, the Europa Center, and the Kurfürstendamm, always attracts many people. For the German football association’s cup final, held in Berlin every year since 1985, tens of thousands of football fans from all over Germany flock to the city.
